Daily Declarations

I’m currently studying the power of words and have realized how powerful they actually are. There is a good study on it in YouVersion called “Words. They become you!” by Pastor Lisa Singh. I am also reading the book by Joyce Myers “Change your words, change your life.” They are both excellent gut checks on how we communicate. I didn’t realize how much I complain or make negative comments. It’s definitely something I need God’s help with.

Myers touches on the power of daily declarations in her book and I am being totally honest, I have always had a hard time with these. It stems back to my child hood when my mother used to have me repeat “Everyday in every way I will get better and better and better.” It made me feel like I must be really terrible If I have to be better in everything.

But in 2016, after I was baptized by the Holy Spirit, I really struggled with depression and a friend of mine gave me  a list of Bible verses that talked about who we are to  Christ. She told me just to read it every day. I did for a few months. By the end I was reading it out loud on my way to work in the mornings and had most of it memorized.  At some point I didn’t need the list anymore. The depression lifted and I no longer beat myself up in my head. I knew I was a child of God.

Myer’s list in her book is very long but really good and I have started saying her list out loud daily, with a few additions of my own. Some of her declarations are far from true now but hopefully I am planting seeds that will lead me into them becoming true.

  1. Hello Ma’am. Yeah, Holy Spirit is doing His thing here. I would like to affirm you and some of the council you are getting-Holy Spirit Council for sure. I learned some years ago the power of speaking scripture out loud. News Boys call it “speaking life”, right? Years later I am still learning to actually apply this weapon, balm, delight, and/or joy-not only to myself, but others as well. Ain’t it funny Jesus gives us this Great Commission to go and make a people who want to follow Him and I turn around and someone says, “Watch it, can’t give something away it you don’t have.” And I “realize”,”Yeah, you’re right. I am messed up”….thief has showed up again! Remember what Hosea said, “My people perish for lack of knowledge.” Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me.” He lives inside us! We ARE seated with Christ in the heavenlys right now.
    Whatever we ask, in His Name, we got it! It takes faith to ask, hope to receive it and love to retain it. We won’t ask if we don’t believe there is one that matters listening, let alone able to respond favorably. Does a child his daddy for good and receive evil? It pleases our Father who art in heaven when we think He can…anything!

    1. Sorry, got cut off. But to finish the greatest of these is love, right? That’s what we are told and it surely is our experience. Who doesn’t have love? That is a lonely, miserable person. I can speak to that experience, too. But thank God for people who took/who take God at His Word!
      We retain the fulfillment of His promises through love by giving away that which we HAVE been given. If the love of God in Jesus Christ is good for me, it may be that someone else is hurting such that His grace and healing can be good for them, too. I can give it away because, sister, my cup is overflowing. Ain’t nothing like being loved and He gives us that experience in eachother.
      Just the same, that roaring lion’s still prowling looking for whom he can devour and too often his snarling lies distract my eyes from remaining fixed on the author and perfector of my faith. So, back to this faith thing…it comes thru hearing, right…hearing by the Word of God, right? Whose faith?
      Well, every once in a while we find ourselves- for LOTS of reasons, some legit, some not- we find ourselves in a dried up desert…feeling alone. Whether my own arrogance, the devil’s lies driving me, or “circumstance”, God is sovereign and ALWAYS good. So what leads us not into temptation to despair, believing our situation is hopeless – Truth! When my boy gets worked up over whatever, we break, if we can, and talk. “What’s the truth about this?” This in light of our faith is not in what we see, but because God works in all things for the good to them that love Him. Well, we can count on His love for us being far greater than all we could ever expect or imagine. Ha! “Don’t lean on your own imagination. Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” This is why. His thoughts and His ways are so much greater-for the good- than ours.
      But in that desert, especially when it seems like we are all alone…This is why knowing God, the God of our fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and Jesus Christ, whom He sent is eternal life… Knowing Him is knowing His Word and when the wind is howling and the earth shaking and rain pouring, we can still hear Him whisper, “I Am with you. I will never leave nor forsake you”
      I have been in a couple healing ministries where I was asked to take this list of scripture and read it, out loud, to myself in front of a mirror for thirty days. A research established it requires 30-ish times for an event or some otherwise object of memorization to become a “truth”. Ain’t that something? It doesn’t have to be true, just established as such.
      I was trained as a surveyor and one of the legal aspects considered was a term called acquiescence. This is where a boundary line exists, but thru use, ie: construction, lawn mowing, field plowing, etc… a boundary line differing from the true line is presumed, by both parties, to be “true”, thus, over time making it so and even becoming a new legal boundary. This is premier false hood and the Bible calls it moving boundaries with zero tolerance.
      However, when we agree with the falsehood declared over us near daily and constantly by the accuser of the brethren, we reject Truth. And we are bound to our own ignorance, especially if Truth has been revealed to us. With Him there is no favoritism. But if we confess our sins, He who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Done! Forgiven. Start over.
      Every lie spoken against me is a push against my boundary. But God’s Word says, “The boundary lines for me have fallen in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.”
      So what’s the deal with ‘speaking it out loud’? God’s Word says, “Faith comes thru hearing.” This is a personal notion, right now, but I believe when we speak God’s Word out into the atmosphere – whether it be for someone else’s benefit-“Trust in the Lord!”, defense against the enemy-“Get behind me Satan!”, or praise in gratitude and awe-“Bless the Lord, oh my soul and forget not all His benefits!” – I believe with all my heart, it is received, reviewed and recorded in the heavenly realms. “I love the Lord, for He heard my voice; He heard my cry for mercy. Because He turned His ear to me I will call on Him forever.” But plainly, I think Christ in me appreciates the value I ascribe to His ways, His thoughts when I declare them especially into the heart of someone, some sheep He is seeking. I don’t think you are becoming brave, I think you are as you trust in Him and share His love through the fog and more of falsehood. Peace.
